Director’s Profile: Prof.D.D Sarma earned his Ph.D, M.Sc.,and M.A degrees from the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Dr.Sarma served the National Geophysical Reasearch Institute (NGRI) of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), for nearly 33 years and his last assignment at NGRI was Scientist G. Dr.Sarma had his training in Computer Methods from IIT (Kanpur); later at the Imperial College of Science & Technology, London and the University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K. Dr.Sarma was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Georgia, Athens, U.S.A during 1978. He was visiting Scientist at the world famous Centre de Geostatisque, Fontainebleau, France in 1987. Dr. Sarma has 65 research papers to his credit published in National and International journals on various aspects of Computer Modelling and has a number of technical reports to his credit. He has guided a number of students from BITS (Pilani), the Indian Statistical Institute and the Osmania University in their Masters, M.Phil and M.Tech dissertations and has been director of research for two students Ph.D students. Dr. Sarma has been on the academic bodies of Sri Sathya Sai, Nagarjuna and Osmania and Andhra Universities. He has authored three books on Computer aided Stochastic Modelling and has been a consultant/advisor to various organizations dealing with Earth Resource Systems. Dr. Sarma is the Regional Representative for Asia of the International Geostatistics Association (France). He is a Fellow, Computer Society of India; Fellow, Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, Fellow, Indian Society for Probability & Statistics, Fellow, Geological Society of India. He is also the Senior Vice-President, Society for Development of Statistics. Dr.Sarma is intimately associated with Computer Society of India (CSI) – a premier professional organization and was on its Executive Committee in the capacity of Regional Vice-President (South), Chairman Div VIII (Micro-computers), Chairman Division I (Computer Architecture and Systems). He was also the Chairman, Hyderabad Chapter of CSI during 1986-88. Dr.Sarma’s biography has been listed in ‘Marquist’s ‘Who is Who’ in the World (8th Edn.,). He is a recipient of Decree of Merit of the International Biographical center. Presently Dr.Sarma is Director, Guru Nanak Institute of P.G. Studies, Ibrahimpatnam, Hyderabad.
